2011
Michelle Germann
Michelle (Kelly) Germann will be attending Ohio University this fall. She is seeking a four-year nursing degree and expects to obtain her registered nurse (RN) license. Kelly is looking forward to the opportunity of working at a hospital in the Southwest Ohio Region so that she can help others close to her home. At this point she is also debating whether or not to pursue a helicopter certification in order to become a flight nurse.
Kelly has been employed at the Ripley Union Lewis Huntington School District for the last three years as an office/teacher’s assistant, working primarily at the Elementary School. Her duties there included supervising the children and assisting with office duties during the after school and summer school programs.
Throughout high school Kelly has been involved in many community service activities as a member of National Honor Society and Leo Club, as well as speaking on behalf of Leadership Club while helping them prepare for their annual stage play. Her activities have also included many hours of volunteer work. She has helped to run her 4-H club’s baby shows, FFA food booths, PTO chili dinners, and has sold basketball tickets for the Leo Club. Kelly has also participated in several river sweeps in both Brown and Clermont Counties.

2011
Amanda McClain
Amanda will be attending the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY this fall. She plans to study biology and later to pursue her medical degree so that she can one day practice medicine near her home in Southern Ohio. Amanda was inspired to become a doctor after reading the story of a young girl with leukemia by author Lurlene McDaniel. She especially looks forward to the opportunity of serving and helping others.
Amanda is currently employed at the Ripley Union Lewis Huntington School District as an office assistant and holds a second job as a childcare provider. While in high school she has been very involved both at school and within the community. She was a member of the National Honor Society, the yearbook staff, DECA, Spanish Club, and was the first chair alto sax in the school band. Amanda’s activities outside of school included many hours devoted to volunteering in the Ripley Community, especially with projects dedicated to cleaning up the Ohio River and the scenic roadways of Southwestern Ohio.
Amanda, like her older sister Katie who won the 2010 Helen Frank-Roush Memorial Scholarship, has established herself as a terrific student and dedicated member of the community.

2010
Katie McClain
Katie will be attending Otterbein University in Westerville, OH this fall. Her plan is to major in communications with an emphasis on public relations. After graduation she hopes to become a freelance public relations specialist working for non-profit causes including cancer research.
Katie is currently employed at the Union Township Library. While a student she has been very involved both at school and in the community. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the yearbook staff, DECA, Spanish Club, a technology assistant, a member of the Ohio Speaker’s Bureau, 4-H Club secretary, et al. She has also been active in volleyball for three years and was the captain of the junior varsity team. Outside of school she has devoted many hours to volunteering as a peer tutor and to projects picking up litter. Her volunteer organizations include River Village Christmas and Matthew 25 Ministries.
Katie is the valedictorian of her class.

2009
Ashley Carrington
Ashley will be attending Northern Kentucky University this fall as a pre-med student. In the past year she has been employed by Carmike Cinemas, and is currently working with Heritage Apartments as well as the RULH Afterschool tutoring programs.
Ashley has been extremely active in her high school career as a member of the National Honor Society, Academic Team, Spanish Club, Student Council, National Society of High School Scholars, Who’s Who of America, DECA, Teen Court, Mock Trial and Pep Club. Beyond all of this, she even found time to play soccer for her school team.
Her community activities include volunteering for Ms. Polly’s Community Thanksgiving Dinner each of these past four years. This event serves over 800 elderly people in the Mason County Area. She also has worked with the Ohio River Sweep and FCC Youth Group while in school.
She is valedictorian of her class and has maintained a 4.0 GPA in all of her studies.
In her own words, “I have worked extremely hard throughout my high school career, setting and attaining high standards for myself, both educationally and morally.“

Cara has been involved with her community through membership in her church youth group and choir. Cara is also a member of DECA and worked at the local Applebee’s restaurant. Cara was nominated for the Helen Frank-Roush Memorial Scholarship by Angela Dee, her Marketing Education Teacher.

Victoria has been involved with her local community through the St. Michael’s Youth Group, the Leo Club, the 4-H Club, and the River Village Christmas. As a high school student she was enrolled in college level courses. She also worked at Co-Heart’s, a tremendous juggling act with school and all her other activities.
